MACON - Cason Sherwood, Jr. passed away Saturday, January 21, 2006. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at 2 P.M. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Steve Hamrick will officiate. Mr. Sherwood was born in Macon to Cason and Mamie Sherwood. Mr. Sherwood grew up in Macon, graduating from Lanier High School where he played varsity baseball. Following his service in WWII he attended Mercer University and continued his career in baseball. Mr. Sherwood was a retired veteran in the U.S. Army in WWII. He received three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart while serving in the Philippines. Carolyn and Cason were selected to be and were married on "The Bride and Groom" radio/TV program in Hollywood, CA in January of 1949. Mr. Sherwood was a member of First Baptist Church, past member of Wesleyan Drive Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Sherwood was retired owner of Sherwood Utility Company serving Electrical Membership Coops throughout the state for many years. Mr. Sherwood was a member of the Bibb County Exchange Club where he served as President. He was instrumental in soliciting donations for the Hephzibah Children's Home. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Carolyn Bozeman Sherwood of Macon; children, Guerry Cason Sherwood, Sr. (Joan) of Madison, Dr. Bozeman Keith Sherwood (Leslie) of Hilton Head, SC, Carolyn Sherwood Jackson (George) of Macon and William Keel Sherwood (Mary Ellen) of Macon and eleven grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, 3312 Northside Drive, Macon, GA 31210. -Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery has charge of the arrangements.
