  Notes	OBITUARY Pensacola News Journal August 17, 2006 Robert L. Jones 1919-2006 Robert L. Jones, 87, of Gulf Breeze, died Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at home after struggling with severe pain. His wife, son and grandson were with him when he went home to be with Jesus. He was born in Century, FL May 1, 1919, to Frank M. and Mami Jones, the youngest of 9 children. He grew up in Bluff Springs, FL, graduated from Century High School and went into road construction work. He was called to service in the U.S. Army in 1941 and became a paratrooper, serving in the 509 Parachute Infantry from May 1941 to May 1945. His outfit was the first American unit to arrive in England. He participated in the Allied invasion of North Africa as well as combat operations in Sicily, Italy, France, Angio, Belgium and Germany. His final year of duty he served as a Master Sergeant Rigger. He commanded 100 men responsible for dropping food and medical supplies to stranded troops and was awarded a Bronze Star. He loved his outfit in the Army and enjoyed seeing his Army buddies at yearly reunions. He came home to Flomaton in 1945 where his parents were running Harts Hotel. There he met and married Myrtice Johnson of Flomaton. He bought the Top O' Hill in Brownsville in 1945. In 1950, he started Jones Floor Covering, which is now a 56 year old family business. He was a charter member of North Hill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Director, and President of the Brotherhood. He was a key partner in startinga mission with his pastor, Rev. Robert Martin, which is now known as Oak Haven Baptist Church. He was a member of East Brent Baptist Church for 30 years. He served in several positions as his health permitted. Robert was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved his family deeply. He loved his employees and he loved people. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He never turned down anyone who needed help, was a great servant of his Lord and Savior, and was always eager to talk to anyone about Jesus. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mami Jones; daughter, Suzanne Jones; six sisters, and two brothers.
