- OBITUARY
John Quincy Waters passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at the age of 82. He was born February 1, 1926 in Gateswood, Alabama to Stanley M. and Virginia Jernigan Waters. After serving in the Marine Corps during World War II, he worked in the paper industry for 38 years. Mr. Waters was an active member and deacon at Gonzalez Baptist Church and Hamilton Baptist Church before moving to Starksville, Ms. He enjoyed nature, traveling in the west, hiking, and family canoe trips and gatherings.
Mr. Waters is preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Katherine; by six children; John Waters (wife Pam), Virginia McCullough (husband Emory), Sharon Schrader (husband David), Jim Waters (wife Janet), Melva Barrow (husband Larry), and Richard Waters; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2009 at Hamilton Baptist Church with Ricky White and Craig Waters officiating and burial following at Clear Springs Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ossie Morris, Frank Maraman, Bill Peterson, J.T. Allen, Orlan Allen, Fred Brown and Bill Bryant. Active pallbearers will be Mr. Waters grandsons; Scott Waters, Steve Waters, Stephen McCullough, Brenan Barrow, Ryan Waters and Ashton Waters.
Faith Chapel Funeral Home North 1000 Highway 29 South Cantonment is in charge of arrangements.
