John de la Rua is dead. This announcement last night came as a shock to the community, though it was known that Mr. de la Rua had been ill for a month or more. He died at 6 o'clock last evening at his home on East Gregory street. John de la Rua was a native of Pensacola, as was his father before him, his grandfather having been among the early settlers of this town, coming here from Spain. His father was for a number of years clerk of the circuit court of this county, and at his death was succeeded by John de la Rua, who had been deputy in the office under has father for years. Deceased was 57 years of age. He is survived by a brother, Ben de la Rua; two sisters, Mrs. G. W. Turton and Mrs. J. M. McAllister; his wife, six children, Elwood, Edgar, Maxwell, Annette, Florida, and Leona. The funeral will take place from St. Michael's church at 5 o'clock this afternoon.
