- In the name of God, amen. I, James Askew, being weak of body but of sound and disposing memory do for the better disposition of my worldly concerns make and ordain this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time made. After payment of my just debts it is my will that my property should be disposed of in the following manner, viz
Item first. I give to my daughter, MARY DICKERSON, Candy and her two children now in her possession with all other property she has heretofore received estimated at one thousand dollars.
Item 2nd. I give to my daughter, ANN THOMAS, one negro woman Fan and her two children now in her possession with all other property heretofore given estimated at one thousand dollars.
Item 3rd. It is my desire that the remainder of my estate be kept together on my farm in the case of my executors for the education and support of my minor children and when any one of said minor children come of age or marry I wish each one to receive of my estate in money or property one thousand dollars except my son, JAMES ASKEW, whom it is my wish should have seventeen hudred dollars and my son, FRANKLIN ASKEW, fourteen hundred dollars.
Item 4th. It is my will that at the intermarriage or death of my beloved wife, ELIZABETH ASKEW, or when my youngest child comes to age that all the remainder of my estate should be equally divided among my heirs.
I nominate and appoint my son, WILLIAM ASKEW, BRITAIN SIMMS, and MARCUS ANDREWS executors of this my last will. In testimony hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighteenth of Ocotober eighteen hundred and twenty seven.
