Families on the Frontiers of the Old South

Burnt Corn, Monroe, Alabama

Notes: Burnt Corn is a small village that was established at the intersection of two important trading paths, the Three Chopped Way, leading west to Natchez, and the Old Wolf Path, leading south to Pensacola. The first skirmish of the 1813 war was fought nearby when Mississippi Territory militiamen ambushed a force of Creeks under the command of the Red Stick prophet, Peter McQueen. In 1860, it was a post office location for Monroe County.
