    • Thomas Barker Tunstall's early adult life was spent in Huntsville, Alabama, which he served in the Alabama legislature until becoming Alabama's Secretary of State in 1836. He served in that position until 1840 when he was elected principal clerk of the house. Tunstall was the uncle of Virginia Tunstall Clay Clopton, wife of Alabama Senator Clement C. Clay, also of Huntsville. (Clay was a third cousin of Kentucky's Henry Clay.) Tunstall was a bachelor.
