    Notes
    • Reaching out for help with my search for the biological mother of Mary Jane Moniac Colbert, wife of William Colbert Jr.

Prior to DNA disproving the possibility, I believe her parents to be Sam and Susan Marlow Moniac, which I see is listed in you database. The possibility still exists that Sam could have been her father. However, Susan Marlow Moniac could not be her mother. Initially, on maternal line from Sam and Susan had been tested, through maternal descendants from their daughter Levetia Moniac. Their maternal haplotype is D1. I am a maternal descendant from Mary Jane Moniac Colbert. When I tested a few years ago, I expected my haplotype to be D1, however it turned out to be B2. Others in my family who descend maternally from Mary Jane have tested and are also B2. I then began searching for a maternal descendant from a third line and found one who descends from Eliza Moniac, and they have recently been tested. Their maternal haplogroup is also D1. Mary Jane was the oldest of the children, so it is not surprising she was not Susan's daughter by birth. Also on an application for the Guion Miller Roll in 1906, Mary Jane's daughter Louisa Colbert, app #3434, does list Sam and Susan as grandparents, but then on the next question regarding their place of birth, she stated "Aunt Susan was born in Baldwin County". So I believe the wrong genealogy began from someone making the mistake in thinking that the Mary listed in the household of Sam and Susan Moniac in the 1860 Census was Mary Jane. But that could not have been her, as she was married in 1852 to William Colbert Jr, and was enumerated in the 1860 census of Baldwin County with her husband William Colbert, their 3 year-old son Dave, and Charles Colbert age 60. This 3 year son was my GG Uncle Dave Colbert. If you can help any with this I would appreciate it. Also if you can help educate and put this information out by correcting it in your database it would be greatly appreciated.

      Thank you,
      Ken Shivers
