    • "Gen. James' (D. S.), was a lieutenant and captain in the Virginia State and Continental lines during the whole course of the American Revolution, and was honorably discharged at its close. While in service he was known as James Meriwether, D. S. (David's son), to distinguish him from his cousin, who was James' son, and was known as James Meriwether, D. L. (Dabney's Legion). After his discharge from the army at the close of the war he moved to Georgia. He was secretary of the Executive Department, Comptroller-General, and held other offices of high trust continuously for twenty years."

      2 James A. member of Congress from Georgia, from March, 1841, to 1843, one of the Supreme Judges of Georgia, in the State Legislature, and Speaker of the House of Representatives at the time of his death, 17th of April, 1852.
