    • OBITUARY -- MRS. ANN CHAPMAN

      Crawfordville GA - June 1880

Departed this life on the 22d instant, after a protracted and painful illness near Crawfordville, at the residence of her son William H. H. Chapman, Mrs. Ann, consort of William H. Chapman. She was born June 21, 1795 and was therefore eighty-five years and one day old. In many respects she was a most remarkable woman, possessor of those elements of character, in a very high degree, which dignify and adorn poor, erring human nature in its fallen state. She seemed fitten by nature and her Savior to move among her neighbors, friends and associates the very embodiment of kindness, gentleness, and love. It was, however, in the family circle her virtues shone in their brightest luster, and it is not too much to say of her, that she was one of the tenderest and most loving of mothers, faithful and dutiful of wives. Mrs. Chapman belonged to the old regime of women who are so rapidly passing away, and whose places will be so hard to fill, for they are in very deed and in truth the salt of the earth, and when one of them falls, she will be missed. Her maiden name was Miss Ann Connell. She was born in Hancock County, Ga., and married to Mr. Mark Andrews (who was one of the first clerks of Taliaferro county, and brother to that noble old gentleman, the Hon. Garnett Andrews, late of Wilkes County, deceased). By this union with Mr. Andrews she became the mother of several children, all of whom are gone from earth, except one son, J. T. Andrews, of Powelton, who still remains with her three Chapman children to illustrate the teachings and virtues of this pious and godly mother, she having married Mr. Chapman, her surviving husband in 1834. Mrs. Chapman, openly confessed Christ before men by following him in baptism, whither she was led by Elder Joseph Roberts July 26, 1828, being baptized into the fellowship of Old Bethel, now Crawfordville Baptist Church, and as we firmly believe, into the fellowship and communion of "The Redeemed of The Lamb" having been a church member for more than a half century, consistent and exemplary in deportment. She is not therefore dead, and cannot die! It is but the transition from a state of sorrowing and suffering to one of perennial bliss and happiness in her Fathers House, wherein are many mansions, and her body will come forth redeemed and revivified in the image of her Savior, in his own good time. Therefore, cease to mourn, dear friends and relatives of Aunt Ann, for your loss is reparable by going to her, and is and will be your and her eternal praise.
