    Surrender of Leeds Castle
    • On 13 October, Lady Badlesmere refused the hospitality of Leeds Castle to Queen Isabella. (Nine of the queen's retinue were killed trying to force the gate.) This unfortunately provided a pretext for the king to exact revenge on the Marcher lords who had humiliated him with the exile of the Despensers earlier in the summer. Politically cornered by a pronouncement of disapproval by the Earl of Lancaster, Mortimer and his allies could not act to relieve the siege that resulted. On 31 October, the castle capitulated, several of the defenders were executed and Lady Badlesmere was sent to the Tower. [3]
